Engineers Without Borders - Camden Community Garden Irrigation Project

  • Worked on construction of rainwater collection and distribution systems in Camden, NJ

    • Camden is a food desert of staggering proportions, with some of the lowest access to fresh produce in America

    • Camden is also home to over 12,000 empty lots

      • EWB partnered with community organizations to tackle both of these problems at once, turning the empty lots into community gardens

    • Lead Water Distribution team, a subcommittee responsible for the design and construction of a solar powered pump system for collected rainwater, along with a drip irrigation system

      • Delivered irrigation system that transported water from rain barrels in controllable and schedulable amounts

    • Lead technical team discussions, with the goal of not only meeting the deadlines of the project, but providing guidance and expertise for newer, less experienced members

    • Assisted with the physical installation and construction of all systems

    • Managed and completed all regulations and paperwork related to purchasing, installation and construction from both the government and the Rutgers EWB chapter.

    • Delivered a functional shed and rainwater irrigation system, while meeting the pre-set budget of $3000
